CHAIRS TABLE

It is our pleasure to present a poem written especially for Chairs:

Being Chair
So many, many things to do, where do I begin -
if I don't get this ____ report done - is it a fatal sin?
If I start with email, I will be here all day long -
but, if I don't reply to each of them, will they think me wrong?
If I could only do my research, grad status will remain,
but, if I do not do this pile of work, I may go quite insane!
If I could just but delegate to my faculty so dear,
without a return of three times back delegated here.
As a faculty member I ruled my life, and often felt so free,
now I get the feeling, everyone is watching me!
When asking me to be the Chair, why did I say yes?
My colleagues think its just because I really love the stress.
The hundred in my paycheck, goes the extra mile -
when using my own credit card, though repayment takes a while.
The meetings, oh the meetings, they're my favorite part -
networking is terrific, if there weren't assignments from the start!
Just when everything has settled, someone has to rearrange,
if it isn't the Dean or faculty, the technology is bound to change.
But if I wanted to leave a legacy, can you tell me how?
With all this other work to do, I'd better start on that right now!
I have been asked to speak as Chair, my poetic juices flow...
Yikes - there's a crisis phone call, I guess I have to go!
